Legends tell of dragons as old as the earth itself, who watched streams become rivers and the tallest trees grow from saplings. Dragons who are at one with the elements, and whose boundless size crowns them natural sovereigns.
Bennie isn’t quite sure the last time she heard one of these stories. Perhaps one century ago? Or was it five?
Well, little matter. To Bennie, the details pale in the grand scheme, and the thing that truly matters is her life in Eirenos amongst her beloved friends. For while some details have slipped into the centuries, others remain solid as stone: the way the Founders’ claws carved the tablets at the signing of the Eirenos accord; the eager but nervous faces of all the dragons, drakaryn, people, and faenriin that ever asked to make Eirenos their home; and perhaps above all, the way her lover’s tinkling laugh made melodies in the wind, and her paints made a world for the two of them so much more beautiful—and so much more painful—than the real one.
The faenriin Attel flees her perfection-obsessed society in search of a familiar. Across the miasma-soaked sea, she makes friends and foes of dragons, discovers a centuries-old tragedy, and forms an unbreakable bond that could unravel two worlds and her heart alike.
