If Attel was grounded, Callie was the dreamer. Where one girl saw flaws, the other saw opportunities.
The years passed, and then the decades. The first lapsed into frustrated monotony, and the second, hopes and daydreams.
Of course, Callie wanted something more than “someday.” Of course, she wished they could have found their familiars and learned their signature magic together. Of course, she wanted to go to Drakien, fulfilling the plans they’d hatched together, half-real and half-impossible dream.
Yet part of her would have also been happy if they could have stayed there forever, having picnics in the sunny mana pomme orchards, picking honeybelles, and carving runestones more for fun than anything.
But while the sky before them was clear, miasma reigned the one behind them. And maybe Callie always knew that one day, the crystal vial would shatter, and the roiling, toxic clouds would pour forth and bury their orchards and dreams alike.
The faenriin Attel flees her perfection-obsessed society in search of a familiar. Across the miasma-soaked sea, she makes friends and foes of dragons, discovers a centuries-old tragedy, and forms an unbreakable bond that could unravel two worlds and her heart alike.
