The magic of our world is a wondrous thing, using the conversion of our planet’s atmospheric mana or a mage’s personal mana to perform feats otherwise impossible.
Growing the most beautiful bloom from one’s claw. Breathing fire from one’s maw. Dancing in the moonlight, and a symphony rises alongside one’s body.
All this and much more is possible with the right talent, training, and biology.
Let us dive in to the details.
The species of our world hold opinions and beliefs as myriad as the flowers of a meadow. It naturally follows that they are prone to quarreling. Yet amongst these many debates, one thing may be held to be universally true: the natural order of our world is guided by a force that we call magic.
Of course, many harmonies once more end there. Different species and individuals disagree on most magical topics, from how magic manifests to the simple number of distinct types.
The prevailing draconic school of thought holds there to be 14 types of magic, which we organize into three categories: divine, ethereal, and elemental. These types vary in their expression amongst species as well as in their rarity—some to the extent that they exist at all.
For my part, I want to encourage you to place aside your disbelief and embrace the childhood wonder you once had—or perhaps still have! The world is a wonderous place, after all, filled with magic both beautiful and terrible, should you be open to discovering it.
We know very little about the magics of creation and destruction, as their details are enshrouded in eons of faenriin isolation and leagues of miasma-smothered sea.
One thing is for certain, however: to create and destroy merely by manipulating mana is magic of the gods, shared only with Amarynox and Caexeros’ chosen, the faenriin.
Although other species may dream of such power at their fingertips, to me, it begs the question: is there truly not a greater cost?
Creation magic creates anything the caster desires from mana. This may be tangible: a chair, a beverage. It may also be intangible: music, knowledge.
It is a beautiful, transformative magic done by a creative endeavor, such as dancing or painting. “To create, one must create.”
While a caster’s magical ability limits this expression, oftentimes the only true limit is their imagination.
Only faenriin can command this magic.
Destruction magic changes the caster’s target into mana, allowing (or perhaps forcing) it to dissolve into the atmospheric mana that enwraps our planet. This target may be a discrete form, such as an entire tree, roots and all, or it may be part of a discrete form, such as a branch and its leaves.
It is a utilitarian magic, cast by the palm held outright, with no flourish.
As with creation magic, only faenriin are able to use this magic.
While we may speak of the 14 “elements” and “types” of magic interchangeably, “elemental magic” refers to the seven types that ground the physical aspects of our world.
The air that we breathe, the energy that lights up our sky, the earth that grounds our feet, the ice that preserves our goods, the fire that transforms our food, the water that quenches our thirst, and the nature that blooms around us, bearing beauty and fertility.
Whether commanded through one’s breath, used as mediums in complex divination rituals, or summoned directly by hand or claw, elemental magic finds a home in every magical species native to Drakien.
Water sustains the life of our world. It brings solace to parched throats, soothes our scales, and fills our skies with life-gifting rain and our horizons with the breathtaking beauty of the oceans.
Yet just as water ripples, so does it roar. Eddies turn to maelstroms; creeks spread, surge to vast rivers, plunge into breath-snatching waterfalls; waves flood across one’s feet, encircle one’s body, and drag one deep into the ocean depths. As easily as it sinks into the earth bearing our crops, so does water fill the lungs, forcing out every last wisp of life-sustaining air.
Rejoice in water; let it splash upon your scales and dance upon your tongue. But do not forget the strength that lies beneath the calmest of waves.
None keep this so close to their hearts as the draconics, humans, serathiin, and special individuals who practice water magic.

A faenriin without a familiar isn’t much of a faenriin at all, are they? Sure, they’re better off than the Unblessed, but that’s like saying it’s better to be alive than a ghost.
